Donovan who sees with his heart

Description

Christmas is the time about love and heartwarming stories. That's why I want to share this beautiful soul's story with you today. He's been my personal Christmas fairy tail and he'll inspire and amaze you as well! And I'm blessed to call him my new family member.

His name is Donovan and he is a cream-point Sacred Birman cat, a rescue from Spain (like my other cat because there's so much animal cruelty) I wanted a friend for Giuliano (his name is no longer Cielo, he's "Giuliano de Cielo" now because that's pawesome!) since cat's shouldn't live alone. I checked the cat rescue page and just fell in love with this adorable face. With his one eye and cute face he looks like he's winking at you  I adopted him as a one eyed cat but it turned out that he's 100% blind.

He's been found in horrible condition in a rough area's teardown house by sweet people that hadn't much to get by. They still took him to the vet and luckily got financial support from the animal welfare. It turned out that he suffered from advanced panleukopenia (cat flu), eyes completely clotted and very weak. He would've died within the next hours. But they also found remains from chemical substances in his face's fur and several traumas (someone wanted to get rid of him). The vets were ab
le to save poor Donovan's life but had to remove one eye. The people who found him fostered him wonderfuly until he found his forever home with me.

Donovan felt at home imediately. Out of his transport box he just didn't stop purring and he snuggled and played non stop. He also came along with Giuliano (who's very social and sweet) right away and even with the dogs, he slept right next to them at once. He played like crazy with a rattle mouse and hadn't much problems to orientate himself but something was different. He seemed to remember where things are and if I moved them he missed. First I thought he has very bad vision (his remaining eye is very blurred, you can't even see the pupil) but he was so happy and playful that it took me a few days to realize that he might be blind. The vet confirmed my guess.

But this didn't change the fact that Donovan's a perfect cat ful of love. His foster family didn't even notice his blindness because he's just that awesome. If you see him in person, you wouldn't believe it either. He barely bumps into anything but frequently runs into the sleeping dogs and always wonders how they came there (so cute ) or accidentaly jumps onto them. But he plays, climbs up the cat tree and plays with his cat friend Giuliano. He uses his hearing and smelling sense and whiskers to compensate his loss of sight. And he does this perfectly. If in some cases he feels lost or needs helpt, he meows and I show him the way out with voice and tapping on the ground.

His eye membrane is completelly scarred and grown together with the nictitating membrane. It doesn't hurt him now but it will in the future and there's a risk of his eye flowing out. The vets told me that his vision can't be restored but to live painfree he'd need an operation. They wondered if I'd want it since it'll be costy. Really?! Who cares about stupid money! As long as this wonderful creature will be healthy and happy, I'd do everything! He deserves it. I can't help all animals in need but I can help this one. I decided to be his pet-parent and now I'm responsible for his well-being.

Donovan is such an inspiring cat. He's disabled but wants nothing but give and get love and enjoys every single moment in his life and sometimes it seems that his own world is even more interesting and happier then our. He has no prejudices and meets everything with curiosity and friendlieness and decides what's good and bad by it's behaviour and not by it's looking.

I hope his little story made you feel better and inspired you to make the best out of everything.
And I wish you all a merry Christmas
